What is the Group Name field used for?

Solution:

You can use the Group Name field to set up Custom Fields or Agenda Items so they are mutually exclusive (i.e., the attendee can select one and only one of the available choices in a group, similar to a set of radio buttons).

To set this up for a series of Agenda Items:

1. Edit your Event and click on the Registration Form Pages tab and then the Agenda page.
2. Edit one of the existing Agenda Items / Fee in the group. This will open the Define Agenda Item / Fee window.
3. Click on the Advanced section.
4. Make an entry in the Group Name field. It doesn't matter what you enter into this field as long as it makes sense to you.
   • Example: "Tues 8am workshop", or "Group1"
5. Click Save & Close to return to the Agenda page.
6. Make the exact same entry in the Group Name field for the other Agenda Items that will be grouped together.
   • When the attendee registers, they will only be able to select one of the grouped items.

These steps are similar to setting up your Custom Fields to use the Group Name feature.

Additional Information:

If this field is required (where the attendee must select one and only one of the available choices), select the Required checkbox for one or all of the grouped Agenda Items (or Custom Fields). Registrants will only have to select one required item from a list of items that are grouped together using the Group Name feature.

If you have an item in the group that is waitlisted, then attendees can select BOTH the waitlisted item AND another item in the group (a 2nd choice).  If the waitlisted item becomes available after they have finished their registration, then the attendee will automatically be moved from their 2nd choice in the group to the waitlisted item.
