Topic:
Setting up an Authorize.Net gateway
Solution:
You can add your own Authorize.Net gateway in your RegOnline account. Note: RegOnline does not support an Authorize.net "Emulator" account.
To add an Authorize.Net gateway:
- On the Account tab, click the Merchant Gateways link.
- Click the Add Merchant Gateway link. The Merchant Gateway Setup window displays.
- Make the following entries:
- Description – The name to display in your list of gateways
- Gateway – Authorize.Net
- Statement Name – This should match the name that you have entered in your Authorize.net Merchant Gateway account.
- If you wish to change the name that appears on your registrants' credit card statements, then you will want to change the name in your Merchant Gateway Account and here in RegOnline.
- API Login and Transaction Key – These are not the login ID and password that you use to sign in to your Authorize.Net account. See the Additional Information below for instructions on obtaining your API Login and Transaction Key.
- Merchant Account Currency – Select the default currency to use when processing transactions with this merchant account.
- This entry can be overridden in the setup for your events.
- Set as Default Merchant Account – Check this box to use this merchant account as the default for your events.
- This entry can be overridden in the setup for your events.
- Select the card types you wish to process. Selecting a card type does not verify that the card type is processing correctly, it simply makes the option for that card type appear on the Checkout page of your event.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- Optional, but strongly recommended: Verify that each card type is processing correctly by clicking the Verify Credit Card Processing icon in the Actions column. Select the card type you wish to verify, enter your credit card information and click Verify Card to process a transaction through your merchant gateway. If the transaction is unsuccessful, the error message returned by your gateway will display in the top left corner of the window. If the transaction is successful, you have confirmed that the selected card type is processing correctly through your gateway.
- Before you begin processing credit card payments, you will need to connect your event to the new gateway. Click here for detailed instructions.
Additional Information:
Fees:
- There are no account setup fees and no monthly charges.
- There is a 0.95% transaction fee for all online credit card transactions.
- This fee will be billed to you by RegOnline in addition to any fees billed to you by Authorize.Net.
- Online credit card refunds are considered an online transaction and therefore are subject to the normal transaction fees.
How to obtain an Authorize.Net API Login and Transaction Key for the first time:
Note: Authorize.net may change the appearance of their website interface. Therefore these steps may not be entirely accurate but should be used as a guideline for obtaining your account information.
- Login to your Authorize.Net merchant interface (https://secure.authorize.net).
- On the main left side menu, click Settings. Under the Security sub-heading in the right side menu, click API Login ID and Transaction Key.
- When prompted to answer a security question, type in the answer to access your account.
- Note: The security question and answer were most likely configured when the account was first activated. If you have not configured this security feature for your account, you will need to do so before you can create these values.
- Confirm that the box titled Reset Transaction Key is not checked, and then click the Submit button. The API Login ID and Transaction Key generated for your payment gateway account display.
- Copy down this information and provide it to RegOnline.
About your Authorize.Net API Login and Transaction Key:
- Your API Login ID is what the Authorize.Net system uses to identify you and your organization. Once you have created your API Login ID you may not change it in the merchant interface. If you need to change your API Login ID for any reason, please contact Authorize.Net Customer Support (http://www.authorize.net/support/).
- Your Transaction Key is the “password” associated with the API Login ID. You may obtain a new Transaction Key as often as needed. However, you must change the Transaction Key in your RegOnline account if this key ever changes. We must have the current and correct information in your merchant account setup in order to use this gateway to process transactions.
