Topic:
I have an international event coming up, and I want to charge the registration fees in Great Britain Pounds (GBP) so that my attendees won’t have to pay a conversion charge for their registration fees. What do I need to do?
Solution:
Your merchant account determines the way your attendee’s credit cards will be charged. That means that if you want your event to charge in GBP (or another currency) you’ll need to be sure that both your RegOnline account and your merchant account are set to charge in the same currency.
For example: When your RegOnline account and your merchant gateway are both set up with a default currency of Great Britain Pounds (GBP), then all transactions will process in that currency with no conversion to/from U.S. dollars (USD) during the transaction process. On the other hand, if your event charges GBP but the merchant account processes USD, the currency will be converted to dollars by the merchant account. This makes it likely that the attendee will see a US Dollar charge on their credit card as well as a conversion fee. It also means that you’ll have to reconcile your event revenues in GBP against bank statements in USD.
