How do I accept PayPal as a payment option?

    Topic:

How do I set up my event to accept PayPal as a payment option?

    Solution:

There are a couple of different ways to accept PayPal payments from your attendees. You can:

    • Allow your attendees to make PayPal payments from their personal PayPal account (using the PayPal Express Checkout feature), or
    • Use your PayPal Website Payments Pro account to process your attendees’ PayPal payments (using the PayPal Express Checkout feature), as well as process the credit card transactions for your event.

Note: PayPal Express Checkout is available with any PayPal Business Account. Check your PayPal account details for more information on what type of PayPal account you have.

To set up your event to accept payments from your attendees’ personal PayPal accounts:

    1. You will need to change some API settings in your PayPal account in order to use the Express Checkout option. More info...
    2. Once your PayPal account is configured, edit your event.
    3. Click on the Registration Form Pages tab, and select the Checkout page.
    4. In the Other Payment Methods section, enter your PayPal account email address and check the appropriate boxes on the PayPal Express Checkout line.
      • You can test the email address you’ve entered by clicking the Test link.
    5. Save your changes.

Your attendees will now be able to pay using a direct PayPal payment from their personal account to your business account.

    Additional Information:

    • To use PayPal as the gateway for your event in order to accept online credit card payments, RegOnline will need to add PayPal as an available gateway in your RegOnline account. Tell me more...

    • Registrants will need to have Cookies and Javascript enabled in their web browser in order to use the "Pay with Paypal" button on the Checkout page.

    • If you are using the PayPal Merchant Gateway for your event to accept online credit card payments, then the PayPal Express Checkout is always available as a payment option for your event.

    • If you receive an error message that reads “PayPal Configuration Problem” when you click the Test link, it’s most likely that you have:
      • Mis-typed your email address. If so, re-type your email address and click Test again.
      • Entered an email that doesn’t have access to that PayPal account. You can test this by using the email address to log in to your PayPal account.
      • Not given the RegOnline user access to your API.
      • Not selected the appropriate permissions checkboxes for the API user.
        • See the Related Links below for more information about setting up API access in your PayPal account.
