My Event has a number of concurrent workshops (or break-out sessions, classes, etc.), and the attendees can only select one workshop during a given time period. I'm using checkboxes for each workshop selection so that I can use the waitlisting functionality. How can I set this up so that attendees can select one workshop during each available time slot?
Solution:
There is a field inside the setup of each Agenda Item / Fee & Custom Fields called Group Name. The Group Name field pulls a number of Agenda Items (which you define) into a grouped set of choices. That means that your checkboxes will work like multiple-choice radio buttons, in that the attendee can select one and only one item from each group. You can also make the item required, meaning that the attendee must make a selection from a given group.
To do so:
- Edit your Event and click on the Registration Form Pages tab
- Click on the Agenda page.
- This same process can also be followed in the Custom Fields section of either your Personal Information or Lodging & Travel pages.
- Click the button titled Add Agenda Item or edit an existing item. The Define Agenda Item window displays.
- Enter the information for this Agenda Item.

- If you would like this item to be required (that is, the attendee must select one item from this group), check the appropriate Required box(es) in the Visible/Required Properties section for the Registrant Type(s) that must make a selection here.
- Click on the Advanced section and enter a Group Name for this item.
- The Group Name can be anything you want; registrants will not see it.
- Example: "Thurs 10am workshop"
- Complete the rest of your Agenda Item setup, and then click Save & Close to return to the Agenda page.
- Repeat steps 3 - 6 for each Agenda Item that you would like grouped together.
- When adding the Agenda Item for each option, enter the same Group Name for each item in that group. Each item with the same Group Name will act as a multiple choice item and allow registrants to select only one of those grouped items.
- Save your changes when finished.
Additional Information:
If you have an item in the group that is waitlisted, then attendees can select BOTH the waitlisted item AND another item in the group (a 2nd choice). If the waitlisted item becomes available after they have finished their registration, then the attendee will automatically be moved from their 2nd choice in the group to the waitlisted item.
