Topic:
Setting up a PayPal gateway
Solution:
Depending on the type of account you have with PayPal, you can accept PayPal payments from your attendees in a couple of different ways:
PayPal Express Checkout only (no online credit card payments)-
If you have any type of PayPal Business account, you can allow PayPal Express Checkout payments for your event fees. That means that your attendees can select PayPal as their method of payment, click a button on the registration form to pay with PayPal, enter their account information, and submit the payment. Once the payment is processed, the attendee returns to your event’s confirmation page and the payment information displays in their RegOnline registration record.
- See the Related Links below for more information on setting up your event to allow your attendees to use PayPal as a payment option to pay for their registration.
PayPal Express Checkout and accept online credit card payments -
If you have a PayPal Website Payments Pro account, you can accept PayPal Express Checkout payments as described above, plus you can use PayPal as the merchant account (or gateway) for your attendees’ credit card payments. In this scenario, whether the attendee elects to pay by credit card or PayPal, the payment is processed using your PayPal account and the transaction displays in their registration record.
First, sign in to your PayPal account to check the type of business account that you have with PayPal. If you have a Website Payments Pro account and you’d like to use it as a gateway (that is, to process credit card payments), RegOnline will need to set that up for you. To do this, you will need to supply us with the following information:
- The name you’d like to assign to this merchant account,
- The email address for your PayPal account,
- The RegOnline account number(s) that can use this merchant account, and
- The default currency you’d like to use when processing PayPal payments.
- The statement name – This should match the name that you have entered in your Paypal Merchant Gateway account.
- If you wish to change the name that appears on your registrants'
credit card statements, then you will want to change the name in your
Merchant Gateway Account and here in RegOnline.
- The credit card types (Visa, Amex, etc.) that your PayPal gateway is set up to process.
- You will also need to grant RegOnline API access to your PayPal gateway. Learn more...
Email this information to the RegOnline Merchant Account team (merchantinfo@regonline.com). We will set this up for you and then notify you when it is available to use to process payments.
Additional Information:
Fees:
- There are no account setup fees and no monthly charges.
- There is a 0.95% transaction fee for all online credit card transactions.
- This fee will be billed to you by RegOnline in addition to any fees billed to you by PayPal.

- These fees are valid for any gateway setup after September 26th, 2008. For older gateways, contact your sales representative for pricing information.
