How do I resize my image so it works in RegOnline?

    Topic:

I have an image that I want to use in a RegOnline event (or in RegMail content), but it’s not the right size or the file type is not compatible. How do I modify my image file so that it works in RegOnline?

    Solution:

In many large companies, you may have a graphics department (or designer or graphic artist) you can call on to create or modify the images you want to use in your RegOnline event. But in a lot of smaller companies that’s not really an option, and if you have an image that’s too small, too large, the wrong file type, etc., you’ll need to make some changes to it before you can use it in RegOnline.

There are a couple of simple options available for this work. If you have Microsoft Office installed on your PC then you probably have a program called Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

To resize an image using Picture Manager:

    1. On your PC, open Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder where the image file is located.
    2. Right-click the image, select Open With, and then select Microsoft Office Picture Manager. The image file opens in Picture Manager.
    3. On the Picture menu, select Resize (or Crop, etc.) and enter the desired image size, and then click OK.
    4. When you’re finished, click the Save icon.
      • Note that if you are working with an unsupported file format (GIF and JPG are the only compatible file formats in RegOnline), you’ll need to Export your file to another file format. Click File and then Export, select your settings and click OK to export your image to this format.

Note that the steps outlined above work on most PCs but not all. If you do not see the Picture Manager menu option when you right-click your file you can open it using the Start, All Programs menu, or if you are using a MAC. Then You will need to locate your image file before you can edit it.

If you don’t have Picture Viewer installed on your PC, you can use one of several very simple and intuitive programs available online, specifically Pixer.us, Pixenate or Picnik. Because these interfaces are completely online there is no software to install or configure, so you can just upload your image and then resize and or crop it as needed. Once you’re done, you can click the Save icon and specify the file type to use; for RegOnline, you’ll want to save your file in one of two formats:

    • JPEG – best for files with photos and a wide range of colors and contrasts
    • GIF – best for high-contrast logos or line art with just a few colors (such as the RegOnline Help Center logo above)

Once you’re done you can save your file to your PC or network, then upload it to your RegOnline form, Badge, or RegMail content.

    Additional Information:

Please note that Microsoft Office Picture Viewer, PixerPixenate, and Picnik are not affiliated with RegOnline, and RegOnline does not provide support for their use; they are simply convenient tools that are useful for many of the typical graphics applications that our customer base often requires. Please contact Microsoft, Pixer, Pixenate, or Picnik for assistance with or questions about their applications.
