Topic:
What is a custom URL and why should I use one?
Solution:
A custom URL is a web address that you set up for your Event, Survey, etc. For example, let’s say you’re setting up an annual charity golf tournament for your organization. You can create a custom URL for your event such as “charitygolf07”, so your registrants can access your form by going to the URL www.regonline.com/charitygolf07.
Why use a custom URL for your event? They’re easier to remember and are more appealing than a number-based URL, and they can be set up using a name that more accurately reflects your event, company, or industry. Your custom URL also plays an important role in determining how your event appears on search engines. More info...
To create a custom URL for your form:
- Edit your event and click on the Start page.
- In the Event Basics section, enter the custom URL you’d like to use in the Registration Form URL field.
- Click the Save & Stay button at the top of the Event Builder window. The custom URL you have entered is checked in the RegOnline databases, and:
- If it is available, it is assigned to your form,
- If it is not available, you will see a message at the top of this window indicating that this URL is already taken,
- If it is not a valid URL, you will see a message indicating that the URL contains invalid characters.
Additional Information:
- Keep in mind that your event URL will always start with www.regonline.com/. It is only the portion after the “/” that you can modify with a custom link.
- Note that the custom link you select needs to be unique in our system. For example, there can only be one custom link for the term ‘salesmeeting’.
- Any custom URL that is created for an event will be removed from the event registration form after the event has been in Inactive, Archived, or Deleted status for 90 days.
