How do I define a new tax?

    Topic:

I have Agenda Items that need to have tax added to them. How do I set up a new tax and have that tax added to an agenda item (or Merchandise item)?

    Solution:

The tax functionality enables you to create up to two different taxes in your event, and then specify which of your Agenda Items and/or Merchandise are taxable. When the attendee selects any taxable items as they register, the tax percentage is added to their total registration fees.

The first step is to add a new tax to your event.

    To do this:

    1. Edit your Event, click the Registration Form Pages tab, and select the Checkout page.
    2. Click on the Advanced Options section heading to open this section of the page.
    3. Make the following entries:
      • Display tax identification information on invoices - The name to display on your registrants' invoices, such as 'VAT Number 123'.
      • Tax Rate 1 Caption and Rate - The name to be assigned to this tax, and the percentage rate for this tax, respectively.
        • The Tax Rate is the text that both you and your attendees will see when a taxable item is selected during registration.
        • The Rate is the percentage to be added to all agenda items and/or Merchandise that you have designated as taxable.
        • See the next set of instructions for adding tax to an agenda item or Merchandise item.
      • Tax Rate 2 Caption and Rate - If your event will have a second tax, enter the name and percentage rate here.
      • Only apply taxes to registrants from selected countries - Select this option to specify which countries will be charged tax. When this option is enabled, all registrants will be required to select their Country during registration.
        • From the list, select the checkboxs for the countries whos registrants will be charged tax.
    4. Make any other entries you require and save your changes.

Now you can add the tax(es) to any of the Event Fees, Agenda Items, or Merchandise items in your event.

To make an Agenda Item taxable:

    1. Edit your Event and click the Registration Form Pages tab and select the Agenda page.
    2. Edit the Agenda Item to be marked as taxable. This will open the Define Agenda Item window.
    3. Click the Advanced Price Options section.
    4. In the Tax Rates section, check the appropriate box(es) to indicate which tax(es) to add to the Price for this item.
    5. Save your changes & Repeat the steps above for each Agenda Item that should be marked as taxable.

To apply a tax to an Event Fee or Merchandise item, locate the item, go into the Advanced options for the fee, and follow the same steps above to add the tax.
