How do I know how registrants got to my registration form?

    Topic:

I would like to track how my registrants got to my online registration form. How can I do this?

    Solution:

You can use the RegAnalytics report to do exactly that - namely, track the traffic to your online registration form. This is a great tool to help you improve how you market and promote your event and even for affilate or referral tracking. One way to know how registrants navigate to your online registration form is to use "Tracking Codes" on the URL (web address) for your event.

Suppose you have your event URL listed in an email sent to potential registrants and on your organization's website. By adding a tracking code to the end of the URL, you can easily identify what link was used to get to your event registration form.

To use tracking codes for your event:

    1. First come up with some tracking codes that make sense to you (such as "email","web", "Channel1", etc.)

    2. Add them to the URL for your event using the following syntax:
      • http://www.regonline.com/checkin.asp?eventID=<eventID>&trackingcode=<Your Tracking Code>
        • Change <eventID> to the ID number of your own event and <Your Tracking Code> to the codes that you wish to use to track individuals.

    3. Use the individual URL's with different tracking codes for your Email or Website.
      • Example URL to use in the email - http://www.regonline.com/checkin.asp?eventID=616117&trackingcode=email

      • Example URL to use on your website - http://www.regonline.com/checkin.asp?eventID=616117&trackingcode=web

Now whenever one of these URL's is used to navigate to your online registration form it will be tracked on the RegAnalytics report in the Tracking Codes section.

    Additional Information:

    • You can create as many tracking codes as you need to use for various marketing, email, or web campaigns.

    • You can not add tracking codes to Custom URL's for your event.  They must use the syntax listed above in order to work properly.
